About Baalyaa School
We believe that
from the time of birth, all children are ready to learn.
However, what we do or don't do as individuals, educators,
and collectively as society can impede a child's success in
learning. For example, if we do not provide proper learning
environment, the children will not be responsible to society
and the nation. The current educational practices do not
match the developmental level of the children. In effect,
we blame the victims, the children, rather than confronting
the real problem--an inappropriate learning environment.
The growing consensus is that the traditional scope and
sequence approach to learning and education with its
emphasis on drill and practice of isolated, academic skills
does not reflect current knowledge of human learning and
fails to produce students who possess the kind of
higher-order thinking and problem-solving abilities that
will be needed.
Children learn
best when their physical needs are met and they feel
psychologically safe and secure. They construct knowledge.
They learn through play. Children's interests and "need
to know" motivate learning. Human development and
learning and are characterized by individual variation.
Children in the age group of 2 to 6 years are especially
vulnerable to effects of positive learning environment.
From the age of 6 to 10 years, the children consolidate
the learning through experiments, motor skills, symbols and
pictures to an eclectic form. The natural process of
learning and proper learning environment forms a solid
ground for a child to go in for higher levels of education.

,A Montessori And Kindergarten School,

The school uses first-of-its-kind
colour worksheets, covering handwriting, number concept,
language development and general knowledge and also unique
storybook format as teaching aid. The language development
format here is listening-speaking-reading-writing. Only after
mastering the first three stages is the child asked to take on
writing in Head start. Story, puppet, flash card, crayons, flannel
board, song and reading card are all used freely. The array of
games and puzzles make the child interested while learning is

Educational research has increasingly shown that students in
many schools don't really understand most of what they are being
taught. Howard Gardner, Harvard Psychologist and author of the
best selling book The Unschooled Mind goes so far as to
suggest that "Many schools have fallen into a pattern of giving
kids exercises and drills that result in their getting answers
on tests that look like understanding. Most students, from as
young as those in kindergarten to students in some of the finest
colleges in India, do not understand what they have studied, in
the most basic sense of the term. They lack the capacity to take
knowledge learned in one setting and apply it appropriately in a
different setting. Study after study has found that, by and
large, even the best students in the best schools can't do
that."
In many,
many Indian schools, children do exercises and fill in workbook
pages with little understanding. There is a great deal of rote
learning. Superficially, it may seems that these children are
learning the material. However, all too often a few months down
the road little of what they "learned" will be retained and it
will be rare for the children to be able to use their knowledge
and skills in new situations. Learning to be organized and
learning to be focused is as important as any academic work.
Doing worksheets quickly can be impressive to parents, but there
is rarely any deep learning going on. More and more educational
researchers are beginning to focus on whether students, whether
young or adult, really understand or have simply memorized
correct answers.

The office of the
Vishvodayaa trust is at Madipakkam which is a sub-urban locality
of Chennai City. The sub-urban area generally witnesses fast
growing owing to settlement of people who avail jobs in the
city. The higher cost of living in the city makes people to opt
sub-urban locality for their living.
One of the main problem
faced by most families especially in the urban society and is
also catching up in the rural environment is day care of the
children. Now the society revolves around money for every day
living and with empowerment of women by higher education, both
men and women become the working class with a job to earn to
their niche. The problem of day care of the children is
aggravated in the society with out breaking of nuclear families.
So, to serve the society
and to solve their problem, the Vishvodayaa trust ,which has its
objective of taking care of early childhood development ,started
crèche for working parents and to benefit children under
BAALYAA School.
